An initiative to promote Women's Education

।।यत्र नार्यस्तु पूज्यन्ते रमन्ते तत्र देवता: ।। मनुस्मृति: (3.56)

Where women are honoured, Gods like to reside there. (Manu Smriti)

Women are torchbearers of culture and civilization. They possess the rare gifts of human race - some to mention are compassion, affection, patience, perseverance, excellence & sacrifice. As if to illustrate this, in the Sanskrit language, words use d to describe "Compassion" like Daya, Karuna, "Mercy"-Kshama, "Perseverance"- Dhruti are all classified in the feminine gender. Keeping these fundamental qualities as basis, women were highly skilled, intelligent, educated and possessed mastery over important subjects including medicine & psychology which pertains to the development of mankind even when there were no modern day teaching methods or material.

India can boast of very many great women since ancient times. The Puranas, Itihasas and recent history are a witness to such noble characters. We also have to remember the very many unknown & silent ones who have and are playing a remarkable role in shaping and moulding the thinking and character of this nation.

In today's perspective, varied challenges confront the society, which demands a greater role for women, to strive for a cultured, knowledgeable, tolerant, peaceful and a progressive way to take India to its foremost position amongst the nations. Education therefore is one of the most important means of equip women with knowledge, skill and self confidence. This will enable them to participate fully in all the development processes of the society, starting from their own families. The value of educating a girl is therefore of utmost importance and has far reaching effect.

India has a rich religious, spiritual and cultural legacy steeped in high moral and traditional values. In the present day world these values have been crumbling due to materialistic pursuits and western influences with a serious danger of it getting lost to posterity. Thus the need of the hour is to educate and infuse good "Sanskar" and "Sanskruti" in the girl children as the future generations' progress and development mainly depends on them.

Keeping this in mind, it is proposed to impart, along with Indian traditions & culture, expert training in languages, music, fine arts, child care, primary education, teaching, nutrition, history, literature, geriatrics, psychology, psychiatry, speech therapy, yoga, life science, home science, skill development, handicrafts, embroidery, horticulture and other relevant subjects. This will help in reaping short-term as well as long-term benefits for society.

With the Divine Blessings of Devi Kamakshi & Acharyas of Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Pratyaksha Charitable Trust has constituted a special wing named as "Shri Kamakshi ShriVidya Samithi" with eminent people to take this noble initiative forward The program "Shri Vidya" is an initiative with a single minded determination of equipping training and enabling women of all age groups in playing this vital role in family & society.

As a first step, it is also proposed to extend scholarship to those already pursuing studies in these subjects and to conduct seminars and workshops on culture, family values and health related subjects & arrange cultural tours.

An appeal is being made to one and all to support this cause generously. The donations will qualify for exemption from I.T. under sec. 80G. The trust is authorized to receive foreign contributions under FCRA.
